Fulfilment

3 Crucial Tips To Help You Find Greater Fulfilment And Success In Your Life

Fulfillment and success are often tied to one another. However, in reality, they are very different from each other. Fulfillment is an 'inside job'.

In other words, you may appear successful to a lot of people, but, remain unfulfilled. Is this you? Here are three tips to have both success and fulfillment:

Tip 1: Know Your Values A person that lives true to their values can be happy in any situation, while a person that is not living in alignment with their values will most likely be unfulfilled, no matter how successful.

What does that even mean?

Think about this. When I was just starting out in the industry, I got married and had two kids. At one point, I was working full time, taking care of the kids, while finishing my second degree. To say that I was overworked is an understatement. However, I was very happy - even on the days when I was failing at something or the other. I felt fulfilled. Why? Because I discovered early in my life that one of my biggest values - the thing that makes me most happy - is family.

So I was working my behind off, and yet every day I felt fulfilled. I was growing (career and education) and I was taking care of my family.

Much later in life, with the kids out of the house, degrees completed, and making a lot of money, I found myself not all that fulfilled. Like I was meant for something more. So, I started mentoring, volunteering - and boom - there it was again. That sense of contribution and family.

Tip 2: Live Your Vision There is a lot of talk about following your passion. I have to confess, that my passions are all over the place. For a long time, I would hear people talk about following their passion and I felt like I was missing out. I was never sure what my passion was. It changed. A lot.

One day, I was asked about my vision. Itโ€™s one of those - โ€œif you had the power to create anything in the world, what would you create: type of questions. Again, to conform, I came up with a lofty vision for the world. I liked it.

Over time, however, my vision has boiled down and become distilled. My vision for the world is love and abundance. Granted it took me some iterations to get here. However, those were part of my original lofty vision; the fluff just fell away over time.

So, every day, when I am doing something, I ask myself:

Is this adding to the love and abundance in the world?

Am I approaching this with love and abundance?

Itโ€™s that simple. And as soon as I shift my attention to love and abundance, I know I am doing something meaningful. I am fulfilled.

Tip 3: Stay Focused Many of you have probably heard of the term Zen. What you may not know is that it is a corruption of the Sanskrit word โ€œDhyanโ€. Dhyan, roughly (very roughly) translated means focus.

It is all well and good to know our values and visions but without the right focus, you may end up living someone elseโ€™s vision and values. And find yourself back in the successful but not fulfilled column.

This is where focus comes in. Bringing your attention daily, hourly, and often to what is your value and vision - and if you are not living in alignment with them, bringing it back to it is the final step.

While knowledge is necessary, execution matters. And the focus will allow you to execute your vision by your values.
